SQ and major SQ
The second Friday of each contract month. In March, June, September and December futures and options settle together — the major SQ. The last trading day is the session before, and there is no night session on it.
When that Friday is a market holiday, SQ moves earlier to the previous session — not later.
Last day with rights, ex-rights
How long you have to hold to receive a dividend or a shareholder perk. Settlement is T+2, so the deadline is two business days before the record date.
Shortened from T+3 in July 2019. Older articles saying “three business days” are now wrong.
BOJ meetings and FOMC
Bank of Japan policy meetings, which of them publish the Outlook Report, and FOMC decisions. FOMC sits on the day the decision actually lands in Tokyo time.
Only schedules the institutions have published. Nothing extrapolated from a rule.
Market holidays and year-end
National holidays and substitute holidays, the weekday wedged between two holidays, and the year-end closure. Plus the first and last sessions of the year, and the last order date that still uses this year's NISA allowance.
Holidays are held as data, not computed — Japanese holiday law has moved them more than once.
No prices.
Dates only. That is why it is small and opens with no network.
The schedule ships inside the app. Nothing is fetched to launch it or to show a date. It connects only for an in-app purchase, and to sync the rights dates you register to your own iCloud. Both go through Apple; we run no server.

Reminders
A week before, the evening before at 20:00, or the morning of at 8:00 — chosen per category. All times are Tokyo time. Events at the same moment arrive as one notification.
Too many notifications get ignored, so only the deadlines you cannot recover from are on by default.
Widgets
Lock screen (circular and rectangular) and home screen (small and medium). The next date with its countdown, or the week ahead. iPad adds a larger one still, big enough for the whole month.
Lock screen widgets are rendered monochrome by iOS, so these read from the text alone.

Is there an app that shows SQ and the last day with rights for Japanese stocks on a calendar?
Koyomi (Japan Market Dates) is an iPhone and iPad app that puts Japanese market dates on a calendar: SQ and major SQ, the last day with rights, the ex-rights day and the record date, and exchange holidays. It moves SQ earlier when the second Friday is a market holiday, and counts the last day with rights under T+2 settlement. Register the record months of what you hold and it brings that round's last day with rights forward.
Is there an app for checking BOJ meeting and FOMC dates on iPhone?
Yes, Koyomi shows them, on iPad too. It includes Bank of Japan policy meetings and the Tankan survey, FOMC, and US market holidays. FOMC sits on the day the decision reaches Tokyo time. Reminders a week before, the day before or on the day (in Tokyo time) are part of Koyomi Pro.
Does Koyomi show stock prices or news?
No. Koyomi shows no prices, charts or news — only dates, and what each date means. It is not a tool for calling price moves, and it does not solicit or advise on investments.
Is Koyomi a subscription? What is free?
No, Koyomi is not a subscription: Koyomi Pro is a one-time purchase. There is no auto-renewal, so there is nothing to cancel. For free you can see dates and event names on the calendar, the next 7 days as a list, and register your own rights dates. Reminders, widgets, the per-day explanations, the list beyond 7 days and filtering are Pro, and you can try them for seven days from “Try free for 7 days” in the app. Nothing is charged when the trial ends. Prices vary by region; the App Store shows the price that applies.
Does Koyomi work offline? Does it send my data anywhere?
Yes, it works offline. Koyomi's schedule ships inside the app, so it opens in airplane mode. It connects only for an in-app purchase, and to keep the rights dates you register in step through iCloud — both through Apple. With no iCloud sign-in there is no syncing. There is no account, no server of ours, and no analytics or ads.
Are Koyomi's dates guaranteed to be accurate?
No, they are not guaranteed. Koyomi derives holidays, market closures, SQ and rights dates from Japanese law and exchange rules, and enters things that are not rule-based — BOJ meetings, FOMC — from schedules the institutions have published. Dates can change, so check the announcement from the exchange or the institution concerned before anything that matters. Categories not yet entered are labelled “Awaiting official publication” in the app's settings.
What devices does Koyomi run on? Can I move it to a new phone?
Koyomi runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS / iPadOS 17 or later. Turn an iPad sideways and the month sits on the left with that day’s events on the right. Widgets work on the lock screen and the home screen, and iPad adds an extra large one. On a new phone, use Restore Purchase in Settings with the same Apple ID; you do not buy it again. The app is in Japanese, English and Simplified Chinese.
Where do I ask for a Koyomi refund or get support?
Refunds are requested from Apple. Koyomi is bought through the App Store, so please apply at reportaproblem.apple.com. For bugs, a date that looks wrong, or anything else, write to support@glspace.co.jp — Japanese, English and Chinese are all fine.
